It was a celebration as the Nets proclaimed loudly that they have officially arrived in Brooklyn.
"We need you," said head coach Avery Johnson. "We need you at the games. We need you watching the games on TV. We need your support."
The team has a new look and will play its first season in the borough at Barclays Center starting in the fall after more than three decades as the New Jersey Nets.
The pep rally was also an opportunity to welcome the newest Net, all-star guard Joe Johnson, picked up in a trade from the Atlanta Hawks.
"I think we have a great upside with this team," Johnson said. "We've got a lot of great pieces."
One of those pieces is Nets All-Star guard Deron Williams, who the team recently re-signed.
"You can just feel the energy these fans have, that the organization has for this move," he said. "It's kinda like a new start, a fresh start and I'm excited to see where this team can go."
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said the sky is the limit.
"Our Brooklyn Nets have their new Brooklyn swagger and the Nets are going all the way," he said.
Fans on hand for the festivities said they were already looking forward to catching the team in action when they hit the court.
"Now we have our team and we're showing Brooklyn is Brooklyn, USA," one fan said.
"Brooklyn needed something like this," said another. "You know, it's been a long time coming."
Markowitz proclaimed Friday Deron Williams and Joe Johnson day. The celebration afterwards featured an old Brooklyn favorite, Junior's Cheesecake.
