The latest New Yorker of the Week has created a recipe for success and is spreading the wealth. NY1's Vivian Lee filed the following report.

With a little bit of sugar, some fresh ginger and a dash of cinnamon, city resident Emily Dubner makes a mean batch of ginger cookies.

"When I came to New York for my first job out of college, I really found that it was a way of bringing my friends together," says Dubner. "I really didn't know that many people in New York."

Dubner is the founder of Baking for Good, an online bakery she started last year. Fifteen percent of the sale of her baked goods go to a charity of the buyer's choice.

"When I came to New York, I was in a corporate job and didn't necessarily take time to give back and do volunteer activities," says Dubner. "So for me, Baking For Good was a way for me to first of all reconnect with the nonprofit world myself, but also to help people to do things in small ways to help out great organizations."

One such organization is the Valerie Fund, which was a featured organization on the Baking For Good website.

"Whether someone buys one package of cookies or 10 packages of cookies, it gets the word out about the things that we are doing for children who have cancer or a serious blood disorder," says Valerie Fund Executive Director Barry Kirschner.

Each baked good is made fresh to order and is mostly shipped from California, but recently Dubner baked at the Astor Center in NoHo, Manhattan. She estimates her sales will generate $20,000 in donations to more than 100 organizations by the end of the year.

"Little efforts, small efforts go a long way," says Dubner. "We say that a little sugar goes a long way and that's been true for many of our organizations."

Annie Macrae buys Dubner's products regularly. Recently, she purchased 250 bags of caramel popcorn as gifts for her guests at her wedding. She chose Children Of Uganda as her charity.

"There's the Boys' Club and City Squash, there are all sorts of great nonprofits right here in New York, and then as evidence of Children Of Uganda, it's a huge reach around the entire world," says Macrae.

So, for serving up something sweet while sweetening the lives of others, Emily Dubner is the latest New Yorker of the Week.
