Bronx parents who complained about a dangerous crossing near a local for over a year have finally received help, thanks to NY1 For You. NY1's Susan Jhun filed a NY1 For You follow-up report.

Back in January, NY1 For You first reported on a dangerous Bronx intersection, where drivers repeatedly make illegal left turns from Briggs Avenue onto East Mosholu Parkway to loop around to East 203rd Street. The intersection is across the street from a school, P.S. 8.

Parents of P.S. 8 students are concerned how countless children cross through that intersection every day.

"Cars just make a crazy turn there, and they don’t, you know, protect the safety of the kids," says parent Marty Simmons.

"I think it’s kind of scary, because in case a child crosses, just playing around the park, [the child] might be able to get hit by a car," says parent Barbara Naadjie.

"It's a dangerous corner," says parent Jose Rodriguez.

The intersection, which has a stop sign, is clearly marked "One Way," but NY1 filmed how the sign does not stop a steady stream of cars from blatantly making the illegal left.

Parents say the easiest solution is to simply put a crossing guard at the crosswalk.

When NY1 called the New York City Police Department last year, police officials said the local precinct was aware of the problem and monitoring the area. When the station asked police if they would assign a crossing guard, NYPD officials said they could not assign one at that corner because the school already had two other crossing guards at other corners.

However, when NY1 recently reached out to the NYPD, the department changed its tune and said precinct officers monitored the intersection. They said a request for an additional crossing guard will be honored.

It is a relief to parents, and the principal of P.S. 8, who said she is thankful to NY1.
