The trash piling up around an abandoned house in the Bronx which has sat empty and open for over five years has the neighborhood disgusted and frustrated.

"It's just it's out of control," says neighbor Chad McCabe. "There's all kind of rats there."

Neighbors say their greatest concern, however, is the security threat this property poses.

"People going in there all hours of the night. Last week, we had a gentleman arrested, he was jumping over the fence and threatening to start a fire," says McCabe. "All of these houses have been here since the 1900s so they're all old construction, they're all wood and God forbid there's a fire, all our houses are going to be in trouble. We've made complaints, we've spoke to the city, we've called people and we get the same answer. 'Yeah we know about it, yeah, we're gonna do something about it,' but nothing gets done."

After residents called us we contacted the real estate agency listed on the fence, CN Direct Realty LLC, and an agent said the company no longer represents the property.

NY1 is now in the process of trying to contact the owner of record. The station also called the Department of Buildings and a spokeswoman said the agency had not received any complaints about the property in over a year.

She went on to say in the past, the DOB found issues with the property’s fence and issued a total of seven violations to the property, totaling $17,000 in fines, none of which have been paid.

NY1 asked DOB if they could reinspect the property and the station is waiting to hear back.
