A protein rich donation is going a long way in giving the hungry a healthy meal.
Area egg farmers donated more than 100,000 eggs to the Food Bank for New York City on Wednesday.
The organization says they need donations now more than ever because of the recession.
"This donation is going to go a long way. It's a fantastic product that we don't get a lot of donations of in this area. So it's just going to be a wonderful supplement to what the soup kitchens and food pantries are serving now," said David Grossnickle of the Food Bank for New York City.
"My grandfather started the business, and he's always been one of those persons that always wanted to give back to the folks and I remember going to his house when I was a youngster, where we would feed the homeless that would come by, and it's something that through the generations we've always done is to give back to the people in need," said Sauder Eggs President Paul Sauder.
The eggs will be distributed to the Food Bank's network of approximately 1,000 assistance programs throughout the five boroughs.
