Lawyers for the four men convicted of trying to blow up synagogues in the Bronx have asked a judge to set them free.

Attorneys for James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams, and Laguerre Payen asked a federal judge Thursday to throw out their convictions.

A jury found the four guilty of attempting to blow up the houses of worship and plotting to shoot down planes at the Stewart Air National Guard Base with shoulder-fired missiles.

The defense argued that there's no evidence of premeditation.

However, federal prosecutors say that there was one instigator of the plot, and the other three were more than willing to go along.

They face life in federal prison when sentenced.
