Former doo-wop singer Fred Milano died Sunday at age 72.

Milano, seen above right, rose to fame as a member of Dion and the Belmonts in the late 1950s.

They took their name from Belmont Avenue in the Bronx, the street where Milano grew up.

The group scored a series of hits with songs like "I Wonder Why" and "A Teenager in Love" and continued performing after Dion left in 1960.

Milano's family says he was diagnosed with lung cancer just three weeks before his death. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
