Mourners gathered at Sacred Heart Church in Highbridge, Bronx on Friday morning for the funeral of legendary musician Yomo Toro.

Toro was a master cuatro player, which is a ten-string guitar from Puerto Rico. He lived in the city for over 50 years.

He died last week of kidney failure at the age of 78.

Harry Irizarry, one of Toro's longtime friends described what it was like to play at his service.

"It was very, very sentimental," he said. "I held back the tears, but that's they way to sing to a good friend, between tears.

"He was loved in the community, especially in the Highbridge section of the Bronx," said Belinda Sanchez, Toro's grandniece. "He was a big angel for us."

After the service, Toro was buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Queens. ClientIP:, UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; + Profile: TWCSAMLSP
