Horace Mann is apologizing and promising reforms in the wake of child sex abuse allegations spanning four decades.
Administrators at the Riverdale prep school posted a letter on the school's website, acknowledging incidents from 1962 through 1996.
The Board Chairman and Head of School call the incidents "unconscionable betrayals."
The school will eliminate the board position of trustee emeritus, which will essentially remove board members who served when the abuses were first reported.
Victims suggested school leaders knew about the abuse but failed to stop it.
An advisory board on student safety will also be formed.
The school agreed to pursue mediation with 31 people who reported abuse, even though the legal statute of limitations had expired.
Settlements have been reached with a majority of those victims.
