Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who they say struck and killed a man in the Bronx.
Officers were called to the intersection of 184th Street and Grand Concourse shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.
When they got there, they found Alfonso Melendez, 50, unconscious with severe head trauma.
Police say Melendez was walking across the Concourse when a black minivan traveling south hit him and kept going.
"The detectives came and knocked on my door real hard. They told me, 'You have to get dressed as soon as possible. We have to get to the hospital,'" said Brenda Melendez, Alfonso Melendez's wife. "I say, 'What happened?' 'A car just hit your husband and he's, we're not going to survive him.'"
Alfonso Melendez was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
