The city is kicking in nearly $2 million to help expand a Bronx community center.

The funding will help the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center expand its facilities on Kingsbridge Terrace.

Demand for the center's early childhood, abuse and special needs programs is growing, and officials say they need more space to serve the community.

The new facility will allow 200 additional families to get services, and will accommodate both autistic children and young adults.

The organization currently serves about 8,000 people.

The center is now more than 80 percent of the way to its full fundraising goal.
