  • Text size: + -

A construction worker was injured Wednesday afternoon while working 10 stories underground at the Second Avenue Subway site.

It happened just before 4 p.m. near 83rd Street on the Upper East Side.

Fire officials at the scene tell NY1 the male worker was hurt when a piece of a concrete machine broke, hitting him in the leg.

It took rescuers nearly an hour to bring the worker up to street level.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says he was taken to New York Presbyterian where he is expected to survive.

An investigation is ongoing.
