A public school bus was involved in a minor car crash on the Upper East Side today.
Department of Education officials say students from P.S. 149 in Brooklyn were on their way to Lincoln Center when the low-speed crash took place.
Police say that the bus had just crossed the Queensborough Bridge when it was waved the intersection at 63rd Street and Second Avenue by a crossing guard. As it was turning, it was cut off and the bus driver slammed on the breaks, connecting at a low speed with a car that was in front of the bus.
Out of the 24 students on the bus, 11 children between the ages of eight and 10 were taken to New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center for observation. None of their injuries are considered serious.
"Every child was alert. Their complaints were minor injuries, minor bumps and bruises," said Deputy Police Chief Steven Morelli.
The uninjured students returned to school. The bus driver and chaperones were not hurt.
There was no damage to the bus.
