INSIDE THE PAPERS
The New York Times
Thomas Kaplan reports: “A proposed redrawing of New York State’s political districts came under intense criticism on Monday, as civil rights leaders said the maps did not fairly represent blacks and Hispanics in an increasingly diverse state, and Democrats said they would file a lawsuit asking a judge to intervene.”
“Gotham” columnist Michael Powell looks at “The Third Jihad” flap: “…In the balance of partner versus suspect, Muslims as often find themselves living in a shadow of official doubts since 9/11.”
Robin Finn reports: “The winning design for a proposed AIDS memorial park opposite the former St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village was announced on Monday after a worldwide design competition. The selection, called “Infinite Forest,” by the design firm Studio a+i in Brooklyn, integrates a grove of white birch trees with strategically placed mirrored walls on the 17,000-square-foot triangular plaza.”
New York Post
Sally Goldenberg notes: “This is no model campaign donation. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn (pictured) said she will return a $4,950 contribution for her likely 2013 mayoral run after The Post questioned the source of the funds: an actress and model who admitted under oath to being involved with convicted swindler Norman Hsu. Quinn took the maximum legal donation from Suzanne Raffaelli in 2007 for a campaign that was widely assumed to be for the open mayoral seat.”
Until tomorrow.
