The federal government is investigating an upstate beef plant which recalled 550,000 pounds of ground beef yesterday.

Two people have died, and dozens of others have gotten sick from E. coli.

Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say beef from Fairbank Farms in Ashville, NY may be to blame. The farm is recalling beef distributed in September to stores along the East Coast, including Trader Joe's and B.J.'s.

The meat is packaged with "EST 492" on the label.

One death was in New York, the other in New Hampshire.

The company is asking anyone with questions to call its hotline at 1-877-546-0122 or visit its website at FairbankFarms.com.
