Fitness expert Jillian Michaels offers some key health tips for 2012. NY1’s Kafi Drexel filed the following report. You know her from her long track record of helping Americans drop hundreds of pounds and get healthy, and wellness coach Jillian Michaels recently stopped by NY1 to help more New Yorkers change their lives in 2012. She says the key to success is making small changes.
“I think when we take anything on and we swing the pendulum all the way to I'm going to the gym seven days a week for two hours a day and I'm never going to eat sugar again, these things are not accessible and they are not manageable in the long term,” says Michaels.
In 2012, she wants to launch a bit of a war on fried foods.
“I would love to do that,” says Michaels. “There was a study that came out recently that said the average American has one fried food a day. But there’s a lot of alternatives we can choose to fried foods that are still going to taste great, that are still going to be grab and go, still going to be affordable. So we will start with snacks. This brings us to Pop Chips. This is a little company that I discovered about three years ago, fell in love with them and actually wound up investing in the company because I loved the product so much. This little bag right here it is 100 calories in a single serve.
“Of course the veggie sticks and the bean dips and we've got our dry, roasted nuts with some seasonings, our raw almonds and a little bit of guacamole that you can make for yourself.”
Exercise is obviously a huge component, as well.
“You've got to do that one, yeah. I'm sorry to tell you,” says Michaels. “But I don't need you to the gym every single day. If you go to the gym four times a week, or you workout four times a week and you give me 30 hardcore minutes. It's going to make a huge difference.”
