Diet experts say you sometimes just need a head start to accelerate your weight loss plan. NY1's Kafi Drexel filed the following report. If you're looking for a way to speed up that summer trim down plan, registered dietician Keri Glassman says you can find it in the pages of her latest Slim Calm Sexy Diet paperback. It is packed with 365 food strategies she says are proven to help you lose weight. But it also includes a three day jump start cleanse plan if you run into any road blocks.
"These cleanses are not about being deprived. It’s not only about having juices. It’s not about extremely low calorie days. It’s about setting you up for success for the plan," says Glassman.
Showing us a quick menu sampling, Glassman says you can lose up to five pounds during the cleanse. It all starts with getting something in your belly first thing in the morning.
"So in this three day cleanse I have three egg whites with one whole egg. That egg provides you with enough fat to keep you satisfied. The protein also keeps you satisfied," explains Glassman. "It’s really important to get your metabolism going with breakfast but also to lay that foundation so that you are not too hungry later on."
The day continues with antioxidant-filled green teas and other fiber and protein-rich meals to help fill you up, along with additions such as cinnamon on snacks like grapefruit to help control your blood sugar.
Glassman says the key to a successful kick-off is going for pure, simple foods that will give you a natural detox.
"You take out all added sugar. You take out a lot of sodium. You take out all packaged and processed foods. You’re drinking a lot of fluids. You are eating consistently throughout the days so you are satisfied," adds Glassman.
The main idea is to just think of the start of your diet as a three-day cleanse, so by day four you’re in it for the long haul.
