In a good sign for the city's economy, a record number of tourists visited New York last year.
According to year-end figures released Wednesday, the city welcomed 50.5 million visitors, up slightly from the estimated figure of 50.2 million released last month.
That's a 3.5-percent increase over 2010.
Not only did more tourists visit the city, they spent about a half-billion dollars more than the year before.
Officials say the pleasant December weather likely encouraged more trips.
