NY1 ItCH: A Debate Date with Schneiderman and Cahill

  • Text size: + -

While you may still be hosing down your living rooms after the Congressional debate between Michael Grimm and Domenic Recchia, it's almost time for another showdown – one in which both candidates will likely be ready to talk about what books they've read.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is facing a spirited challenge from John Cahill, who was a top aide to New York's last Republican governor, George Pataki.

Cahill has repeatedly called Schneiderman's record into question, saying he's doing little to be the "people's attorney" – while trying to score political points with the Democratic establishment.

Schneiderman points to his record going after the culprits behind the 2008 mortgage crisis while saying he's taken on plenty of cases to help average New Yorkers, zeroing on prescription drug abuse and going after employers who don't pay their workers overtime.

A first-time candidate, Cahill has shown some passion for the political jousting employed by his old boss, taking swings repeatedly at Schneiderman, who is considered to be eyeing the governor's mansion should it ever be vacated by Andrew Cuomo.

So tonight the stage in upstate Hilbert College will present a rising star in the Democratic party against a Republican candidate who some think has the best chance to win a statewide election for the GOP for the first time since 2002. It will come to you live on NY1 at 7 p.m. (repeated at 10 p.m.) and on our website – without registration. No books allowed.
