NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter Sharon Dizenhuz's June 19, 1997 coverage of when "Cats" became the longest running musical in Broadway history.
NY1 FOLLOW-UP: "Cats" finally closed on September 10, 2000 after a total of 7,485 performances. In January 2006, the show was overtaken by "The Phantom of the Opera" for the record for most performances of a Broadway musical. "Cats" remains in second place.
