First Lady Michelle Obama and the Vice President's wife, Jill Biden, toured a Bronx veterans center ahead of Wednesday's opening game of the World Series.
While visiting the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Kingsbridge Heights, the two urged all Americans to be more aware of veterans and the sacrifices they've made.
Mrs. Obama called on the country to engage in more community service in the spirit of those who have given so much.
"Each and everyday they selfishly and courageously serve this nation," Mrs. Obama said. "They demonstrate their commitment to upholding America's highest ideals. They make an enormous sacrifice for each of us for the country and for the peace and security we all enjoy."
Meanwhile, at the White House, President Barack Obama signed a bill allocating a historic increase in VA funding.
