A Catholic elementary school in the Bronx presented a check Monday to Archbishop Timothy Dolan as they continue to raise money for the ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. NY1's Dean Meminger filed the following report.

St. Raymond's Elementary School in Parkchester is not a very big school. It has about 600 students or so. But the young people who attend the school have big hearts and raised money for the people of Haiti. During Catholic School Week they presented a check for $15,407 to New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

"I feel bad for the kids, because they are little and most of them are hurt and their parents are missing. It is very sad," said eighth grader Jonel Love.

Besides the $15,000 raised by the elementary school students, St. Raymond's high schoolers and parishioners donated another $12,000 and money is still coming in.

School officials say once all of the money is collected they will have raised $30,000 for the earthquake relief effort.

"It moves my heart to think that a wonderful school like this would say 'Archbishop, here, we have sacrificed so that we can help our suffering sisters and brothers in Haiti,'" said Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

For some students, the school's donation is especially important to their families.

"It feels great to help out people who need money who have had disasters," said St. Raymond's Elementary student Dejour Frazier, whose uncle is currently in Haiti.

"I am really excited and I hope Haiti gets better," said St. Raymond's Elementary student Solena Zoey Beauvais.

Archbishop Dolan says the money raised at St. Raymond's will be put to good use in Haiti.

"The best thing we can do is send it to Catholic Relief Services," Dolan said. "They are pros. They have been in Haiti for 60 years.
We know it is going right to feed, cloth, and rebuild in Haiti."

Although the cathedral in Port-au-Prince was destroyed, Dolan says the main focus is not resurrecting the church, but rather saving lives and rebuilding families in Haiti.
