NY1 Bronx reporter Dean Meminger has been honored for his contribution to the African-American community.
The award was presented by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. in a ceremony at the Bronx Museum of Arts.
Diaz called Meminger a role model for the community.
"These are the individuals that our young men and women are going to look to,” said Diaz. “A young black man, or Latino, or Latina, or a black young lady can now look at NY1 and see him doing his job and say, ‘you know what? I can be that as well.’”
"I'm not an advocate, but as a journalist and a reporter I think it's my obligation to tell the stories of those people who cannot tell it for themselves, that they do not have the power of the mic and the TV and the radio like I do," said Meminger.
The award recognized those in the Bronx community who have set examples for the youth.
