High school teams from around the city and state pitted their robots against competitors, as the FIRST Robotics Championship concluded Saturday in Atlanta.

The students built robots that played a soccer-like game in the Georgia Dome.

Major government agencies like NASA and the CIA and engineering companies like Lockheed Martin and Boeing also sent representatives to scout out future talent.

"We've got to have kids focused on technology, so they can come up and be good engineers," said Time Warner Cable Chief Operating Officer Landel Hobbs.

"We see these kids as the future of our corporation, our country and the world. If we can transform them into people who build, maintain and innovate our future, then we will all benefit," said Gary Blake Ross of Lockheed Martin

"It's great, to show us what we're available to learn and to move on after high school," said Ed Wecera of Patchogue Medford High School.

NY1 and its parent company Time Warner Cable continue to spotlight efforts to educate students in science, technology, engineering and math. For more information, visit connectamillionminds.com.
