State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Junior is getting some competition for his Bronx seat.

Longtime Bronx community leader Desiree Pilgrim-Hunter announced her campaign for the State Senate on Saturday.

Hunter, a Democrat, says if elected, she will tackle unemployment, education, and housing reform.

She also talks of bringing change to Albany.

"With the eyes of the entire state watching us, let us make good the promise upon which this campaign is founded, the belief that has long been at the center of my life, the people who love their community can change it," Hunter said.

Espada Jr. is under investigation for alleged tax and residency issues.

He also helped lead a coup in the State Senate that earned him the title of majority leader.
