Cancer survivors and supporters braved the humidity at Yankee Stadium for a run Sunday afternoon to raise money for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.
This is the third year the 5K has been held in the stadium, but officials said it's their best year ever.
"We hope that by supporting the most brilliant young minds, we are more likely to find the breakthroughs of all forms of cancer as quickly as possible,” said Lorraine Egan of the Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.
“My husband's a huge Yankees fan, so this is right up his alley. And cancer, also — the Damon Runyon Cancer Foundation is definitely a dear thing to our hearts,” said one woman present.
“It was a nice run, it was a little hard, the steps weren't too bad, but me, my son and my daughter, we finished," said a man.
Organizers say the event raised more than $600,000.
