Police were searching Saturday afternoon for the husband of a Queens woman found dead in an Astoria apartment.

Authorities wanted to question Jordan Hawes, seen above, about the killing of his wife.

The body of Tara Hawes, 33, was discovered when police were called to a building on 30th Street just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sources say the woman's in-laws called police after being unable to reach the couple for days.

Investigators say she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Neighbors say they were shocked to hear about her death.

"I'm surprised that they murdered her cause I've seen here before. How did it happen to her? So very sad, very sad,” said one resident.

“I'm actually quite surprised to hear that, because she was quite friendly girl, you know, every time they would come to the building she would be the one to greet people,” said another.

“We see them walking their dog all the time. They never seemed like they had too many problems. It's really shocking. It's really sad," said a third.

Police say Jordan Hawes is 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

He could possibly be driving a grey Jeep Liberty with New York license plate number FEX7781.
