A Bronx post office will now carry the name of a local soldier killed in Iraq.
Elected officials joined family members of Private Isaac Cortes to dedicate the Parkchester Post Office in his name.
Cortes grew up in the neighborhood.
He was one of two soldiers killed by a roadside bomb in November 2007.
"It's a reminder to all the people who come to the post office, one of those buildings that everyone uses at some point," said Rep. Joseph Crowley. "When they see the plaque on the wall, they'll ask who was Private Cortes."
"Just remembering him, that is my best way of remembering my son," said Cortes's mother, Emily Toro. "To honor him and remember him, his life."
Cortes was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
