Speaking to the local paper "The Wave", Bloomberg said any boardwalk that needs to be rebuilt, in the Rockaways or anywhere else, will be built of concrete.

Boardwalks from the Rockaways to Staten Island were carried off by the storm, but parts of the Rockaway boardwalk made of concrete survived.

Some people like the idea, while others feel there are more pressing concerns.

"I think it's a marvelous idea," said Deborah Johnson, a Rockaway Beach resident. "I think it's more sturdy. It would be more safe. It would be more solid. It wouldn't blow away like the boardwalk did during the storm."

"Worrying about wood versus concrete, it's an important topic for the future, not right now," said John Cori of the . "We have to think about building a seawall, rock jetties and a lot of sand."

The mayor also told the paper he's not sure the boardwalk can be fixed before the upcoming summer, but a spokesperson for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation said those plans are still being finalized.
